food options & payment: With over 400 visitors registered, we except over 371 vistitors on sunday and over 329 visitors on monday. The capacity of the university canteen is 150 people indoors and if the weather is warm enough some more outdoors.
The consequence is that not everyone can eat at the same time. The university canteen has open from 8:00 to 14:00 and serves hot lunch from 12:00 to 14:00. We will write timeslots on each visitor badge (12:00, 12:30, 13:00, 13:30) and politely ask visitors not to eat lunch in the canteen before your assigned timeslot to avoid long waiting lines.
paying for food coupons: The university canteen accepts cash and card payment. However, to ease the workload a bit, the registration desk at PyCon Austria 2025 will also give the option to buy food coupons for lunch (we accept cash only) to speed up the food payment in the canteen ( you just give your food coupon instead of handling cash/card ). You can help us a LOT by bringing the exact amount of cash when buying food coupons ( 9.50 € for lunch on sunday, 8.50 € for lunch on monday).
All closed on Sunday : For visitors coming from abroad, please keep in mind that in Austria, generally all shops are closed on sunday. This is especially true for smaller towns like Eisenstadt. If you want to buy snacks etc. from local supermarkets, do it before Saturday 18:00 !
Generally, to buy food (or anything) in Austria on a sunday, you must seek out the few open shops (usually at petrol stations or train stations / airports).
Eisenstadt is not a particular big town and therefore mostly closed at sundays, however one McDonals close to the PyCon Austria location (and some Cafes / restaurants in the town center of Eisenstadt) are open.
conference opening: All lectures begin at 9:00 because we expect many visitors arriving with the morning train from Vienna (leaving Vienna 7:30, arrival Eisenstadt 8:30 and walking to the PyCon Location (Hochschule Burgenland) for ~30 minutes.
There will be a short official opening / greeting from our host (Hochschule Burgenland and Linuxtag Eisenstadt) every day at 9:00 in Lecture Room A (HS1). Also see the updated conference schedule: https://pycon.pyug.at/schedule.svg
registration and opening party: Our team will be today ( Saturday, 5th april at the registration desk ( entrance hall) today from 12:00 all the way to the opening party at 18:00 and beyond. The opening party (it’s a get together) will start at 18:00 in the entrance hall at the conference location ( Hochschule Burgenland, Standort Eisenstadt )
